There is a massive myth that has kept millions trapped in the grip of anxiety. That myth is that situations can cause you to experience anxiety or stress.
Situations at best will trigger (not cause) your negative thoughts that will cause you to experience anxiety or stress by releasing adrenaline from your adrenal glands that will in return make you experience the fight or flight response. When you experience the fight or flight response you then experience the side effects of the fight or flight response which is what we call anxiety.
So remember, situations do not cause anxiety or stress. Your negative thoughts (your reaction) about situations and other people cause anxiety and stress.
This is actually great news because this means that you don’t have to change everything around you to calm your mind. All you have to do is change your reaction.
No one can control the way you feel. No one can make you feel upset or anxious. It’s your psychological reaction to people and situations that causes you to experience nasty anxiety.
